Al, I had this conversation with a good shooter recently. His thoughts were that with an extremely clean case neck, there is the possibility of some bonding between the bullet and case neck caused by the nature of the two materials. Does it affect accuracy? Not sure. A couple of remedies mentioned were to dip your bullets in some dry Imperial…[Read more]

Pascagoula was a beast. Never had shot in wind like that at Reese Bottom. The match director allowed Dan, Steve, and myself to discuss each shot and the results were pretty amazing. On several shots, we held the .223 on the outside black ring to get a #10; at least a 2.5 to 3 moa hold. Had a fun time shooting with the guys down in south MS.…[Read more]

As of this morning, the forums are back active. Many of you have mentioned that you would like to see this happen. I plan to take a different approach this time around. I will leave the forums up as long as the website stays active. Whether or not you choose to post will be your choice but I will remind all of you that the forum will never…[Read more]

As most of you already know, the June match at Reese Bottom will be a benchrest match. We will start registering at 8:00 am and hopefully be shooting by 9:00 am. Mr Bob, I have heard it said that some of these longer bullets might not go to sleep at 200 yards. Would say a 1/3 moa at 400 yards be acceptable? Also, would you care to share a thing or two about what you might do to squeeze a bit better out of a load or rifle? Thank you for the information. WWE

A question or two for all of you good shooters. If you are developing a load for a bench rest rifle that you plan to shoot at 500 yards, how well would the rifle have to group for you to be satisfied with the load? 1 moa, 3/4 moa, 1/2 moa, 1/3 moa, etc? We all know that the stars line up occasionally, but what is realistic?
To have a successful…[Read more]

Sam, a couple of questions. What do you mean when you say F-Open style? What would I be looking for in a different rear bag? Sorry for all the questions, but please remember I am a beginner still trying to learn. Thanks, WWE

Sam, I wish you would explain a little more about dry firing in the living room. What exactly are you practicing? Do you actually dry fire? I read somewhere that dry firing was not good for the action. That could be an opinion thing. Thanks for sharing, WWE

Thanks Sam. I tried to shoot the .223 prone like I have been shooting my bench rifles and I could tell that is was not working very well but I refused to do any different. I had planned to prep before this match and for various reasons, I never got it done. I have had a conversation with another good shooter about this and he mentioned a lot of…[Read more]

Still looking for new ideas for the chat forum. Does anyone have an idea how to make this thing work? Google Analysis says that over 100 people have viewed the site since Sunday and yet only 7 have bothered to go vote on the poll. Would welcome a personal message if anyone has new ideas. Thanks, WWE

Looking back at last Saturday’s Mid-Range Prone match at Reese Bottom, one could tell that there was plenty of prone talent on the grounds. Being relatively new to this type of shooting(only 7 matches), I often feel that there is a lot that I do not yet understand. As I see it, a good shooter can read articles, watch video, ask questions, and…[Read more]

Mr. Al, Mr. Gilley has set the bar mighty high. When he gets that neck and shoulder well, he will be hard to handle. There was another good shooter that had a personal first that I failed to mention. Sam Ent?????(sp), my personal scorer, mentioned that he shot his first clean target with a sling gun. Congratulations Sam, division winner.…[Read more]

Mr. Bob, I did read through the rules this afternoon while I was supposed to be working and I found the rule about the boards. 12 X 24 seemed to be the max but my question is about the 2 inches. Do the rules allow for 2″ outside each leg or 1″ outside each leg for a total of 2″? A Harris Bi-Pod is a lot narrower than many of these newer wider…[Read more]

Brett, good to hear from you and so glad that you found Reese Bottom. Either you are fudging on ‘the first time’ or you are a very fast learner. Being your first time, how did you fair with that much shooting? I was standing behind all of the shooters and I sensed that several, including myself, fatigued down the stretch. Hope to see you soon. WWE

Mr. Bob, I am shooting 80 gn Bergers, lapua brass, CCI BR 4 primers, 24 gn Varget, in a 1X8 twist brux barrel, and a trued Remington action. Looking back, I leaned on the rifle pretty good and it just did not seem as stable as I would like. If this weather will ever break, I plan to do some load testing and also work on my set up. 584 is my…[Read more]

I am looking for new content for the website. If any of you good shooters would make a video and get the footage to me, I will get it published and give you credit.
