Steve, thanks for posting this information. Let us know how the 720 worked out. My pea shooters are smaller than this rig but someone should be able to use this info. Hope to see many of you south Alabama boys this Saturday. WWE

Allen, must be nice to be able to build a new rifle each year. Good luck with the dasher. I am sure that you will enjoy it at 1000 yards but, having two of the suckers, I cannot honestly recommend at 600 yards. The fire forming is time consuming and I see a lot of inconsistences in the formed cases. I am about done fire forming two sets of 50…[Read more]

Ron, good to hear from you and look forward to seeing you soon at Reese Bottom. We have been missing you. Thanks for mentioning your experience with the bad primers. I assume that the comment is in response to the new rule that will be implemented this year at Reese Bottom. I want all shooters to understand that they will not be asked to step…[Read more]

Wynne Echols replied to the topic An Ammo Question in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 10 years, 1 month ago
Steve, the .223 has a Brux 1 X 8 twist barrel. I shoot varget powder, CCI BR4 primers, and lapua brass and 80 gn berger bullets. I have these loaded with 24.5 gn varget and I reduce the load to 22.5 over 70 degrees. I loaded these to shoot in November so the weather should be fine in February. I read somewhere that brass and bullets actually…[Read more]

I have seventy something rounds of .223 ammo that I plan on shooting at the February Mid Range Prone match that I actually loaded for the November match and for some reason did not shoot. That will put this ammo having been loaded for approx. three months. Question is: what should I expect? Does anyone have any experience with ammo loaded for…[Read more]

Steve, good to hear from you and glad to see that you made the trip to Pascagoula. You should have a leg up on us cold weather boys. The whole idea behind the ‘overall winner’ is to just try to do something a little different. I have noticed the results from several larger shoots where a shooter that shoots fairly well in both group and score…[Read more]

Reese Bottom hopes that all of you good shooters had a wonderful holiday season, maybe got some new stuff, or cleaned up your old stuff. Anyway, a new season is almost upon us. I noticed that Mr. Collins says that he is going to have to locate his rifle. Sure hope everybody finds everything in good, clean working order.
My son-in-law is…[Read more]

The event schedule for 2016 has been updated on the ‘events page’ Please notice that there are changes from this past year. The main difference is that we eliminated the mid-range prone match in July. The monthly matches will remain on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The mid-range prone matches are early and late in the shooting season to try…[Read more]

I received a phone call this morning from a gentleman that is looking for some 38 wad cutters. I had never heard of these, but he tried to explain and I told him that I would ask. Any of you fellows know where a person might find some of these? Thanks, WWE

I spent some time this afternoon going through the registration book to see how the year went. I do not remember, but I assume that the April shoot got rained out. It was determined that 5 Mid Range Matches were shot and 4 Benchrest Matches were shot. The Mid Range Matches averaged 12 shooters while the Benchrest Matches averaged 16 shooters.…[Read more]

Some of the locals are reporting that we have had as much as 7″ on rain over the last few days, and more predicted. I rode over to the bottom this afternoon and took a few photos. You may click on each photo to enlarge. The water got in the little house for the first time but thank goodness the pits were spared any apparent damage. I am…[Read more]

Al, sorry to take so long to respond. The truth is that I did not do any measuring or sizing or fitting on this first firing in the fire form barrel. All that I am trying to accomplish is to get the bullets to fire and form to the chamber. Once I get them shaped, then I will customize to the individual rifle. I actually bought Mr. Webb’s die…[Read more]

Steve, I am not sure what caused the problem. What I do know: did not use your hard end of scale primers; 30 grains of Varget[BR load but light for dasher]; the hydraulic die pushes the shoulder forward but does not perfectly form the shoulder and I experienced a very firm bolt close which would lead me to believe headspace is not the problem.…[Read more]
