Wynne Echols started the topic An Ammo Question in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 10 years, 3 months ago
I have seventy something rounds of .223 ammo that I plan on shooting at the February Mid Range Prone match that I actually loaded for the November match and for some reason did not shoot. That will put this ammo having been loaded for approx. three months. Question is: what should I expect? Does anyone have any experience with ammo loaded for…[Read more]

Steve, good to hear from you and glad to see that you made the trip to Pascagoula. You should have a leg up on us cold weather boys. The whole idea behind the ‘overall winner’ is to just try to do something a little different. I have noticed the results from several larger shoots where a shooter that shoots fairly well in both group and score…[Read more]

Reese Bottom hopes that all of you good shooters had a wonderful holiday season, maybe got some new stuff, or cleaned up your old stuff. Anyway, a new season is almost upon us. I noticed that Mr. Collins says that he is going to have to locate his rifle. Sure hope everybody finds everything in good, clean working order.
My son-in-law is…[Read more]

The event schedule for 2016 has been updated on the ‘events page’ Please notice that there are changes from this past year. The main difference is that we eliminated the mid-range prone match in July. The monthly matches will remain on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The mid-range prone matches are early and late in the shooting season to try…[Read more]

Wynne Echols started the topic Wad Cutters ? in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 10 years, 3 months ago
I received a phone call this morning from a gentleman that is looking for some 38 wad cutters. I had never heard of these, but he tried to explain and I told him that I would ask. Any of you fellows know where a person might find some of these? Thanks, WWE

I spent some time this afternoon going through the registration book to see how the year went. I do not remember, but I assume that the April shoot got rained out. It was determined that 5 Mid Range Matches were shot and 4 Benchrest Matches were shot. The Mid Range Matches averaged 12 shooters while the Benchrest Matches averaged 16 shooters.…[Read more]

Some of the locals are reporting that we have had as much as 7″ on rain over the last few days, and more predicted. I rode over to the bottom this afternoon and took a few photos. You may click on each photo to enlarge. The water got in the little house for the first time but thank goodness the pits were spared any apparent damage. I am…[Read more]

Al, sorry to take so long to respond. The truth is that I did not do any measuring or sizing or fitting on this first firing in the fire form barrel. All that I am trying to accomplish is to get the bullets to fire and form to the chamber. Once I get them shaped, then I will customize to the individual rifle. I actually bought Mr. Webb’s die…[Read more]

Steve, I am not sure what caused the problem. What I do know: did not use your hard end of scale primers; 30 grains of Varget[BR load but light for dasher]; the hydraulic die pushes the shoulder forward but does not perfectly form the shoulder and I experienced a very firm bolt close which would lead me to believe headspace is not the problem.…[Read more]

Had an interesting experience last week fire forming dasher brass that I thought I would pass along. I had never been made aware that different brands of primers are thicker or tougher. After I had hydraulic formed 100 pieces of BR brass into dasher brass, two of the grandsons and I headed off to Reese Bottom to do some shooting. I had used…[Read more]

Allen, good to hear from you and we hope that all is well up ‘North’. Gardner sent me a picture of a nice buck that he killed last week in New York. I am a ‘has been’ hunter so I have no answers to your question. I will say one thing, I never realized that hunting was so popular up your way until I met up with you guys. Jeff, speaking of crazy winds. It has been mentioned in my presence that a right to left wind at Reese Bottom could possibly bounce off of the trees to the left and really throw the shooter a curve. Anyone else have thoughts on this possibility? WWE

The feet on this rest appear that they would grip the ground very well. The feet on my Seb Joy Pod are as slick as a snow ski. What would be the benefits of one over the other? WWE

Last weekend at Reese Bottom during the 3rd relay there appeared to be a gusty breeze that reared its ugly head and seemed to catch several of you good shooters off guard. I would love to hear how many of you missed it or if you noticed it how you held for it. The scores during the 3rd relay seemed to be lower in most cases. Thanks, WWE

Just talked with Dan. Turns out that he and Ad have started duck hunting and did not want to miss out on the first weekend. Also, send ‘one’ up for Dan. He fell about 12′ while working yesterday and is pretty bumbed up(broke nose, cracked wrist, and other sores and bruises) Promised that they will be ready by spring. WWE
