A gentleman asked me once if I knew how to get to Carnegie Hall. I had no idea and told him so. His answer was practice, practice, practice. It appears that Addison Gunter is trying to get there. So proud of this young man. The photo below is of some recent practice time at Reese Bottom getting ready for the upcoming Mid Range Match on the 19th.

Thomas Webb recently sent me several photos of his new 300 yard private range located just outside of Toomsuba, Ms. He mentioned that the range would be unique in that they planned to shoot only 4 shot targets. Great job Mr. Webb. WWE

Al, I have a Thumbler Tumbler. It is supposed to be for rock cleaning, but seems to do well with brass. I have learned to fill the tank almost full and I add dawn dish liquid and lemon shine for cleaning. A couple of hard knocks along the way: a half full tank allows the brass to beat itself up and you are dealing with liquids that you have to…[Read more]

At the last F-Class match it was mentioned that there were small target centers available that could easily be pasted over the target centers when the center got all shot up. Well as it turns out, we are actually shooting at target centers, not real targets. Does anyone know where we could buy, say, 8 ring centers? Thanks, WWE

I just left Reese Bottom and noticed the following items in the shed: a folding chair with Gunny on the back, a stainless steel coffee mug, and a set of Peltor ear muffs. If any of this belongs to you, you know where it is. WWE

According to Gunny, the title makes this an approved topic. All of us at Reese Bottom are wishing all of you good shooters and fun, safe, and relaxing July 4th. And oh yea, don’t forget to give thanks for your independence. Last Sunday night I attended a service here in town where several of the local church choirs joined together for a…[Read more]

Dave, I cannot make myself believe that 15 to 20 degrees would make that much difference with the Varget so I went back and read your original response. I realized that I was jamming 105 VLD’s and you are jumping hybrids which has got to be the difference. I think I read somewhere that the two bullets are a different shape so their…[Read more]

Dave, good to hear from you and thanks for sharing the load data. The 30.8 gn Varget seems high for these temperatures, so, I will have to ask, what was the temperature while you were shooting Saturday. During the summer months, I can remember shooting 30 to 30.1 and during testing seemed to get some bolt lift issues at 30.4 to 30.5. Thanks…[Read more]

I would like to publicly congratulate a forum member from the state of New York who yesterday at the 1000 yard club in PA. won his relay for score and came in third in the shoot-off in the light gun division. Way to go Dave. Dave Burkart bought my first benchrest BR and I got to shoot with him last year at The World Open. Real nice guy with a…[Read more]

Wynne Echols started the topic Announcing the July Mid Range Prone Match in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 11 years, 6 months ago
On July 19, 2014, Reese Bottom will host a Mid Range Prone Match sponsored by Backwater Custom Firearms. Registration will begin at 8 am and hopefully we will be shooting by 9 am. $10 per gun and the F-Open and FTR classes will pay at least 2 places if we have a similar number of shooters as before. If more shooters come we might pay a third…[Read more]

Thomas, I am proud for you and am sure that you will enjoy shooting at your new range. You will have several decisions to make as far as the set up. Much of it will depend on whether or not you want things to be permanent or portable. One thing that I have noticed lately at Reese Bottom is that these new ‘tube guns’ need a longer bench top than…[Read more]

On a different topic. Suze found a big ole tick lodged behind my left knee after the shoot. Might better check yourselves. Champion Sniper jinxed me. He asked during the match if we had a problem. Said it was bad up north of here. Good Luck. WWE

Steve, your comment of holding 4″ right and 4″ left got me looking. I held ‘X’ on all of my shots at 500 yards and for all practical purposes my group and your group are the same size. Question. Is that a coincidence or is there some theory as to two different approaches being able to achieve the same results. Interesting. Thanks, WWE

Surrell, help me understand this a little better. You state above that by the time we got to the last relay, things started to happen. I assume you mean the last target because you shot all of your shots in the first relay(coolest time), which leads me to believe your issue is load/temp related. I looked at the time and the first relay took 45…[Read more]
