Over the last couple of years, we have shot several different orders of fire. Trying to decide an order of fire for the June Benchrest Match. What are some of your favorites? Thanks, WWE

Wynne Echols replied to the topic Set-Up and Wind Reading Clinic in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 12 years, 2 months ago
Roland and I have tentatively agreed to hold this set-up and wind reading clinic on Saturday June 28th. Plans are for this to be a stand alone clinic not to be held with a regular shoot. There will be shooting involved. More information will be coming at a later date. Gunny says that he has noticed from several of the post in the chat forum…[Read more]

Is anyone willing to share information that they have either tried or read about concerning a proper breathing routine while shooting. Will the same technique work for both benchrest and prone shooting? Thanks, WWE

Wynne Echols started the topic Reflections from the Prone Match in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 12 years, 2 months ago
Thank you to all that were willing to share their knowledge of prone shooting yesterday before the match. Having cut my teeth on benchrest shooting, I must admit that this prone shooting is a full struggle for me. I notice so many shooters that look so comfortable on the line and then once it is my turn to shoot, I seem so out of sorts. Not…[Read more]

Dan, its good to hear from you. Understand that you took a tumble at work this week. Glad to know that you plan to shoot. It will be interesting to watch how recoil affects broken ribs. (no flinching please)

Wynne Echols started the topic Rifle Scope Reticle in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 12 years, 2 months ago
What are your thoughts on the best rifle scope reticle types for benchrest and f-class? Are the same type reticles suitable for both disciplines? I have a fine cross hair on both of my rifles, but I notice a lot of shooters with dots in their scopes. Are there different size dots and which is better? Thanks in advance. WWE

Well, the last cloud over last night dumped about an inch of rain but it is supposed to be sunny today and tomorrow so we should have a beautiful day for an F-Class match. I finished my loading last night(23.6 gn Varg, 80 gn Ber + BR-4) I’m ready for me some F-T-R, how ’bout you? I have received several calls from people that will make their…[Read more]

Tony, I just tried to read through most of the rules. I think that I interpret the convertible thing to say “if you like your first sighter shot, you could convert it to record and shoot the other shots in that relay” without any other sighter shots. What I do not think it says is that if we give you 7 sighter shots, you cannot choose a ‘X’ out…[Read more]

Tony, I will be the first to admit that I am not up-to-snuff on the rules. Where can a guy find the rules? Sure seems like something that we can discuss Saturday.

Jim, plans are to shoot 3 X 20. That could change a little if we have more shooters than usual. Have not had any problems so far, but our thinking is that if we exceed 30 shooters, we might have to alter things a little. We only have 5 targets but like I said it has not been a problem so far.

I see what you mean by convertible now. Roland is right, we do not convert a sight in shot to a score. A shooter’s score sheet allows the scorer to keep up with sighters and I noticed that the shooters all turned to their scorer and made the scorer aware that the shooter was going to record score. Also, once the shooter starts their record fire,…[Read more]

Tony, For the last prone match we allowed 7 sighters for the first relay, and 2 each for the next two relays. Did not seem to be a problem. Not sure what convertible means. We did have one or two shooters that had problems with their zero and as always, we tried to be lenient.

How did you settle on the caliber of your favorite bench rest rifle. The .223 is the first rifle my dad bought for me 50 plus years ago. It was a 700 model Remington .222 that has been re chambered in .223. Lots of memories with this firearm and lots of satisfaction seeing it compete. I was actually running from recoil when I selected the…[Read more]
