Be sure and study the results of the match held last Saturday at Reese Bottom. You should notice how many of the top three positions in each division were won or lost by the ‘X’ count. I remember probably twelve or so years ago a group loaded up and went to Tullahoma, TN. for my first match ever. The .223 and I posted a 564 with very few ‘Xs’ and I was so proud that all my shots actually hit the target. Twelve or so years later, competition has really changed for the better. I can only imagine that many of you have experienced similar journeys. WWE

Mr. Wynne you hit me with very got point, before I started shooting at Reese Bottom about all of my competition shooting revolved around handgun silhouette were I just needed a hit that would knocked it over until Shooting FClass thats really my first time shooting for score. Thinking back when we shot at Moundville I shot well when we shot at Steve Gillys I shot well at the Dasher Dome I shot super all three of these I was shooting steel not shooting for score. NO X’s on these target it’s just hit or miss. That won’t work when shooting for score and to the point you’re making shooting for a 10 won’t even get you in the money now at Reese Bottom.
I have the two worst habits you can have in shooting Fclass
“Chasing my last shot and hoping for a ten”
those habits will guarantee you last place i’m living proof
Setting here thinking if I had Saturdays match to shoot over again
all shots for score I would hold dead center X and let the chips fall -

When I started shooting 12 or 13 years ago, you could drop 5-6 points in open and win a match and I don’t ever remember shooting above 40 x’s either. I’ve noticed just in the last two years at Reese bottom how the scores have gotten so much tighter and everyone has upped their game. Mr. Richard, what you do with that pistol is honestly impressive so just keep on showing up and shooting! I don’t believe I ever held much out of either side of the x ring and the couple times I did it would almost blow me out so I quit trying to do that and just played it safe. Like Mr. Wynne, I think my first score card shows a 565 with a 308……….my goodness I’ve gone so far down the rabbit hole I’ll never see the light of day, but it’s been fun!!

Scott, Barry you both answer a question I meant to ask in my reply “ how much were you having to hold off” thanks for doing that. Really I thought The wind was real mild in all three of my relays but I couldn’t the the flags but I doubt they would’ve been any help. I really didn’t see any Maroge. I personally think other than the rain and not good visibility the conditions were about as good as you ask for like I said on my report four of us shot the bench relays three shot 598 I shot 582 an if you avg their X’s They had twice the number of X’s as me. Scott said he shot fast I can’t do that after every shot the recoil takes my gun way off target. Next match I’m going to try very hard to pay very little to my last shot and shoot for the X
Positives, with the new/ old load my X count is going up along with my scores and that 199 7 x relay at 1 k last month might have not been a fluke

Just a comment on the ‘hold off’ thing. I just now noticed that I had not turned my turrets back to zero. I shot the match with six clicks of left dialed in and I think all of my shots but two were aimed at the ‘X’ ring. Those two were hopefully aimed at the ‘X’ but for some reason decided to go low. For information purposes only: Shot 2 and Shot 60 were both just out at about 6:30. If they did not one-hole, they were no more than 1″ apart. This had nothing to do with a wind call [there was none] it was either gun handling, load work, or Reese Bottom haints. Sad thing is that we will never know. What if one day A I is able to instantly tell us what went wrong??? Oh well, Reese Bottom probably could not afford the target upgrade.
