Wynne Echols started the topic Trying to Focus a Rifle Scope!! in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 11 years, 11 months ago
I have had different conversations with other elderly shooters that almost all express concern about not having a real clear sight picture through their rifle scope. Does this come with age or is it possible that the scope could be better focused. I think that most shooters understand magnification, to a lesser degree – parallax, but I was…[Read more]

First off, I apologize for this being so late on Sunday night getting posted. It has taken me twice as much time getting all of this uploaded as you guys spent shooting yesterday. Be sure and check out the ‘Home’ page and the ‘Results’ page for the latest updates. Click on the photos to enlarge and enjoy the videos. Success at Reese Bottom…[Read more]

As of Thursday morning, the weather forecast for Saturday appears to be outstanding. Zero chance of rain from now until Sunday. Get them loaded up and make plans to attend. The better the attendance, the greater the competition in each division. Hope to see many of you this Saturday around 8 am. WWE

I am back online after a four day bout with the recliner. Dr. went in to repair a hernia and found a very large one, another small one, and something else that he repaired. After spending Thursday night in hospital, I have shared my misery with the recliner all weekend. Anyway, had several little blue lines this morning and would like to thank…[Read more]

Wynne Echols replied to the topic Bullet seating dies in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 12 years ago
Al, after reading Tony’s response, I am ashamed to mention what I am doing and would love for someone to tell me that I am crazy. We recently chambered my rifle into a 6mm dasher and I am using my old Forster 6mmBR seater die to seat the dasher bullets. My thinking was that nothing touches but the seater and it seems to work well. WWE

Wynne Echols replied to the topic August Benchrest Match in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 12 years ago
The whole intent of the hunting rifle division was to allow people with hunting rifles to come to Reese Bottom and see what we do without having to buy or build an expensive firearm. Obviously it has not been a very popular idea. The format is, at best, a work in progress. The target at 100 yards is simply a means that allows the shooters to…[Read more]

For the hunting rifle class, we put up a target at 100 yards with a bunch of t’s on it and the shooter must do all of their sight shots at this target. We time it but are very generous. Then with no turret adjustment(must hold over) shoot four at a target at 200 yards. We go cold for a period and then shoot four the same way at 300 yards. That…[Read more]

Wynne Echols replied to the topic Bullet Seating Depth in the forum Reese Bottom Chat Room 12 years ago
Al, I have 2 cents worth that I would like to spend on #4 & #5. Another interesting way to determine OAL is with a hornady modified case and their guage along with a 4′ wooden dowel and the bullet of choice. Remove bolt, place modified case on guage and insert bullet of choice into modified case, ease into chamber with bullet back in case, ease…[Read more]

Reese Bottom will host a benchrest match on Saturday August 16, 2014 with registration starting at 8:00 am, drawing at 8:30, and hopefully shooting by 9:00 am. A shooter may shoot up to two guns and the entry fee is $10.00 per gun. We will shoot the same three divisions plus a hunting class and all fees will be paid out to the winners. This…[Read more]

Jim, you said above that neck tension and OAL are important to you. What exactly are you looking for? Am I right to assume that the type of bullets used could alter the results? Thanks, WWE

Al, Many bushing dies come with a button that works on the same principal as the mandrel you mentioned above. For some reason, all of that got a bad reputation as far as case concentricity. Supposedly the bushings straighten the case neck and on the up stroke the button bends the neck a little. As far as using the mandrel as the last step, most…[Read more]

Al, I sure do appreciate you posting these topics lately. I am so sorry that the members of our chat forum are so unwilling to respond. Al, I will take a shot at this one although I am not sure that there is an exact answer. I just looked back at the results of this month’s midrange match and noticed that several shooters matched or bettered there high relay score during the third relay. These rifles were still shooting pretty well after 70 or so shots. Would a clean barrel…[Read more]

Dave, thanks for sharing this information in the forums. That is one impressive target. That would be all of our dream. I have a few questions and observations. Every shooter loves the first relay. Did Mr. Ray share any load data? What bullet are you experimenting with jamming and jumping? Can you attribute your recent success to anything…[Read more]
