  I have worked with hundreds of rifles that upon shooting the first shot after cleaning  have hit as much as 10 inches off at 100 yds on the first shot. If we were shooting at 1000 yds that would be little more than 100 inches, enough to cross fire on another target even. I think it&#8217;s a great idea to waste that first shot.</p>

Wind was blowing 10-12 mph from the north and it was cold.  I&#8217;m zeroed 11 inches high at 550 yds and I think that&#8217;s going to be pretty close at 600 yds. Year before last I was at Reese Bottom and had 6 primers not fire on my 308.  These were CCI standard primers. Also had two other hunting rifles that had the same problem.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t shoot hot loads and finally determined that I had some bad primers. </p>
<p>Tossed them in the trash and haven&#8217;t had any problems since. </p>

   Temperature greatly affects your reloads. I shoot a midrange load in most of my rifles that is tuned to the middle of the node using a ladder test method of load selection. Therefore for me, when the temperature changes I&#8217;m still pretty close to my reasonance barrel frequency.</p>

<p>I too like a windy day. Some of the guys we shoot with know that I&#8217;m a mirage shooter. I have been for years.  At some point, I should try to explain mirage shooting and the trusty mirage boards that I use to use when shooting point blank benchrest. I&#8217;ll work on putting something together.</p>
