  • 5:00 pm update. The sun is shinning and the sap is rising. More of the same tomorrow would make for a nice Saturday. Keep those fingers crossed. WWE

  • Dave, Darrell Jones is actually the match director at Steel City and does an outstanding job keeping us knuckleheads in line. I read a thread on another website where a bunch of good shooters were really bragging on the great job he does forming brass. I’m sure you will be very satisfied. My only concern would be that if he forms that brass…[Read more]

  • At 8 am. on Thursday it is a little foggy but the sun is trying to shine. About 2 am this morning we had a lot of thunder and lightning but only .2 inch of rain. Thank goodness the sap is rising. The weather channel has some pretty high chances of rain the next couple of days. We will just have to wait and see. Either way, if we do get to…[Read more]

  • To New York from west central Alabama, I was told that shooters never tell all they know. lol. The truth is berger 105 vld jammed .014 to .015, cci 450 primers, lapua brass, 33 gn. varget running the best I can tell 3000 to 3010 fps. Steel City shoots 4 five shot targets at 520 yards and oh yeah I happen to have a copy of the light gun agg…[Read more]

  • Well, it has not rained yet so who knows. If we do get to shoot Saturday, the best I remember we were kind of close at our last match as to having enough spotting scopes. If you have one, please bring it. Please stay in touch with the website in case we have to alter plans. Thanks, WWE

  • Next Saturday, March 21st, is our first Mid Range Prone Match of 2015 sponsored by Britt Jones and Backwater Custom Rifles. The weather forecast is not very promising for the latter part of the week and 80% change on Saturday as of now. Either way it is going to be wet at Reese Bottom. We will shoot if at all possible and the forecast is very…[Read more]

  • I read on another site today about the dangers the shooter faces by being in the direct sunlight for long periods of time during summer matches. Are you the shooter aware of this and what precautions are you taking? Must admit that I have not given this much thought but will this coming year. WWE

  • Steve, first off, where can an interested shooter read this? Esp. the chapter on chronographs. I do think that chronograghs serve a purpose but I also think that numbers as related to shooting are comparative but not absolute. Britt Jones and I have said that we were going to stack our chronys to see how close the results were, but we never…[Read more]

  • I have put a couple of new items on the home page. I will beg one more time. I am in dyer need of content for the forums. Is there anyone out there with an idea, a video, or a blog that they are willing to share. If anyone will provide the content, I will be responsible for getting it published. Thanks, WWE

  • Well, March is here which means that it is time for the first Mid Range Prone Match of 2015 at Reese Bottom. Britt Jones and Backwater Custom Rifles will sponsor the event and plans are to run the prone matches similar to last year with a few tweeks. The match will be held on Saturday March 21, 2015. Although the matches at Reese Bottom are not…[Read more]

  • The top or 5 shot target at 500 yards. WWE

  • Below is an email that I received today from Hornady, Inc. I do not think it healthy for the forum to become political, but I do believe that everyone deserves the right to be informed. Thanks, WWE

  • Dennis, some things you don’t need to tell. lol. Looks as though we had a similar upbringing. What has amazed me so far about this topic is that no one has mentioned a military related event that led to a shooting career. I will mention that I went through National Guard basic training at Fort Jackson, SC in 1971 when the military had just…[Read more]

  • Mr. David Gardner, forum member from Pennsylvania, sent me the photo below this morning taken at the end of his driveway and told me to tell all of you good shooters complaining about the conditions at Reese Bottom to come on up to his place. Their range will be snowed in for a while yet. WWE

  • Doug, that is interesting. I got started this morning and the phone rang and I did not finish. About four years ago I was over at Mr. Campbell’s house and Britt drove up and Mr. C asked Britt if he had a target to show me that he had recently shot in B’ham. Best I remember it was a nice group shot at 520 yards. The group size was very…[Read more]

  • Last Saturday Reese Bottom welcomed 18 good shooters(20 guns) for a fun morning of competitive shooting. The shooters came from far and wide and it got me thinking of what in the world has brought us all together. How did you get interested in long range shooting and do you give credit to an event or a person for getting you involved? WWE

  • While looking at the results from the match last Saturday, I was amazed at how many shooters shot such good 10 shot groups at 500 yards. Approx. 25% of the shooters shot smaller 10 shot groups than 5 shot groups and several more were basically the same size. Do any of you good shooters have a theory about this or was it just a coincident? WWE
