It seems like there’s always a little something going on down range to make you shoot one out the right, left, down, up. Just curious if you like to watch a flag? Mirage? Maybe just chase the spotter? For me, during the match, I noticed the 2nd flag on the right would droop and if I didn’t come in at least a ring it would shoot it up wind. Luckily I didn’t get caught by that but I was a dummy and shot in a heavy boil and mine went low. I also had to turn the power down on my scope to 40x and it was still really muddy. What power do you like to shoot on if conditions are clear vs when they’re muddy? I’d like to hear what everyone else does, I’m always wanting to learn and try something new.

Right there with you my friend. Same flag I was watching along with mirage. I should have waited on the boil to stop on the one i dropped out as well. I was waiting and then you shot and the peer pressure got me and I sent mine as well lol. I dropped my power down to around 40 as well. Still a great time!

I liked to see the flags moving Saturday. I watched the second flag most of the day. It seemed like I could see better with a little bit of wind. I left my scope on 80 all day. I did watch the mirage when I committed to my shot to make sure the flags were telling the truth…
I had a couple of shots go exactly where I aimed on the right edge of the ten ring that told me I almost missed a condition. I did not like the flags to be just limp, and I also dropped a shot low.

I think we shot second and y’all were 3rd and 4th.
There was something different each time, not a lot going on most of the day but no string was the same for me, I had to change my hold each time to be where I wanted to be.

Good stuff fellows. Not sure all of the good shooters have ever been down range at Reese Bottom so I will talk about the flags a bit. There are four in all. The first flag is on the right and is lower than the others and completely blocked from the left. To me, not much value. The second flag is on the left at about 430 yards and is relatively open in all directions but does not seem as active as the next flag on the right at about 530 yards. This flag is open in all directions and aways appears to respond more than the others. The base of the pole is roughly 25′ above the shooting slab plus another 20′ of pole so the flag is roughly 45′ above the muzzle. The last flag is on the right at about 750 yards and is somewhat open in all directions and seems to carry more value some months than it does others. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Suze and I are at the beach, and I did not look at my targets before we left home. I think my three misses were all outside about 3 to 4 oclock and not too low. I shot the first relay on 80 power and the second and third both on 60 power. I shot the 100 yard windage all day[nothing dialed in] The first relay I had a good look on target at the 80 power. Relays two and three were very messy on 60 power and I [thought I] was holding one to two rings left{would not sware} most of the time. I shot off of the third flag until the second miss on the second target and to me the flag was limpesh and the mirage was telling me why. Barry shot the relay clean right beside me, so I then realized that there is work to do. And like Johnathan said above “still a great time”. Not too long ago a 597 would not come in 7th out of 10. All is good! WWE

Well gad you posted this Barry. I started on 50x the first relay the target was a white out even if I turned the power down so I turned back up, it was like the sun bleach it out I just held center the best I could lol. The second relay the target looked much better but I guess one thing at least on I think shot 8 I was not looking at was the target number because I shot target 2 not 1 !!! Later I did turn my scope down to 40 because of marge. I try to watch the flags but my last shot alway make me take it in to concentration and sometime thats not good. I will be the first to say my conditions reading is bad as in real bad. I guess to be honest and to answer your question I chase the spotter. I feel better doing that which I know is not the best way but my check list is so long and my guns recoil take me totally off the target by time I get it back lined up the conditions could change before I can get the shot off. My last relay 197 was my best of the day I basically held some were in the X ring depending on my last shot.
And yes I’m open for advice

Coming from the fellow that was 7th out of 10 so be cautious. Richard, your comment above about your first relay has me scratching my head. Fact: y’all shot early. Fact: the condition for that relay was the best of the day. For you to not have a good site picture at 50 power during the first relay seems odd to me. I know that conditions at Reese Bottom can change in a hurry, but on Saturday, we shot an hour or so later and at an even higher power the site picture was pretty clear. I write all of this just wondering if something you did or didn’t do created the problem you experienced. Proper eye piece adjustment [glasses on or glasses off], parallax adjustment, barrel mirage, tree limb or blade of grass in line of site, spider web? What could it maybe be. I, for one, often get caught up in the moment and forget to do all the things necessary for a good setup. I read once where this well-known good shooter said that he peeped through several scopes on the line at a national match and that not a one was setup and adjusted properly, in his opinion. Let’s agree to use the Big Red Clock to our advantage and slow down and better think our way into the relay ahead. WWE

It had me scratching my head also, I try different things to clear it up and Apparently nobody else on that relay had that problem and it was NOT a problem on the next two relays so that really has me confused. And let me say up front I am complaining or using it as an excuse. I just thought of something one day a few months back I was at the range shooting at drawn targets on with poster board and had the same thing happen. So I guess it’s just my eyes playing tricks one of those your getting old things

I’d say on first relay it should be as clear as it’s going to get. Might be worth adjusting your scope every match to get it as clear as possible. Mr. Richard, do you adjust the eyepiece to get your crosshairs crisp? Mine had somehow gotten out of focus, I guess the lock ring came loose and it was fuzzy at 100yds so I had to readjust and then lock it back down. Just a thought

My eyes get out of focus every now and then, I usually have to stop and take a break.
I did adjust my parallax between the second and third relay to focus what I thought was ‘short’ of the target. That seemed to help me see conditions better.

Barry crosshairs were sharp and I had all parallax adjusted out. And It just hit me I think my eyes were dilated. I’m always a day and dollar short On my thinking. Funny what made me think of it I went the eye doctor yesterday and he dilated my eyes and I was told when I had my brain bleed that I could at times have a eye dilation problem soo I’m thinking that was the problem now I need to fine a solution if it happens again

Mr. Richard, I’m glad you found the culprit! I hate that can happen to you at times because it would definitely cause an issue.
