Richard SlatonParticipantBack on Sept 1 2021 I wrote a “article” on Reese Bottom web site about my journey to shoot “ that thing I shoot” at a 1000 yards well at the end of the Feb. match I had done the 1000 at a 1000 at the end that match I had shot over a 1000 rounds at a 1000 yards( 1004) I know that’s not even close to what most of you have shot, But I look at it as accomplishment for me, bucket list kinda thank, thank you Mr. Wynne for giving the change to do that.
On to my April match report:
Which actually it started the week after the February match when my son-in-law offer to take to the range ( I’m still not driving). I had found a half box on new Br. Brass so I decided load up 15 to fire from and use for fouler. I also loaded 20 of my normal match load. And what I saw was the hard jam fire from load shot circles around my normal load. I could not wait to get home and check something and what I found was what I had thought, my slightly in the lands because of wear was now jumping. So I did a new“ ladder test” and between adjust seating dept and powder charge it’s back shooting one hole groups at 100. And what I also saw with my bore scope (after I found it) was plenty throat wear, and could be that a barrel change is coming soon this gun is on its second BrX barrel and I have a new one lying in waiting in the safe when I make the call but right now it’s shooting as good or better than the one pulling the trigger and right now I think I need to up date my scope the 32 power works fine at 600 but it hard to see the x at 1K so I may move up to 50x I’ll make that call before fall when we start back the 1K shoots
You probably thinking last month you just shot your best 1k rely and your making changes well sometimes you need a little confidence boost and something to make you add that keep fully focused attitude and keep you from wondering “what if”
I put in the scope from last match figuring that get in the ball park. My first relay Sighter that shot Is always the pucker factor and it always seam the take two day before pops up on the screen high 7 ok I can work from that second Sighter another 7 so the words of wisdom me Wynne shared with after the Feb. match I started going with flow and learning from my sighters on my 7th Sighter I was rewarded with an X so ready or not going for record first 3 shots 2 -X’s and 10 then a 9 followed by 10 an another 9 finished the final 10 shots with one more 9 for first relay for a score of 197 -5X which is a good score for me and after looking the other score I thought I ant looking bad, then it happen on relay 2 bottom fell out with a score of 187-2X. Well suck it up butter culp learn from your mistakes 3rd relay 195-6 X witch is another good relay for me at 1K.
I alway said if you shoot 195 at 1K the gun and ammo is there it’s the one pulling the trigger that keep it from shooting a 200. My main problem is keeping fully focus for 3 relays right now 2 is my limit but I’m a work in progress. I normal run the numbers but this month Easter tomorrow and grandkids home plus typing all this that very few reads I skipping that part.
Mr. Wynne busts his butt to have shoots every month and I think him for that but there is someone else that works hard too Scott Parden
Scott is Wynne’s right hand man and we all need to thank him as well!
Spend time with your family for Easter remember He is risen
If you find any typo’s in this report fell find to point them out -

KeymasterThanks as always, Richard. Thanks too for mentioning Scott. He is the main man and well appreciated. He just does not take as many pictures as Kenneth does. [see photo page] Thanks to all of the good shooters that support our matches. I have updated the home page, photo page, and the results page.
Remember, the May match will be shot at 1000 yards. WWE

ShooterParticipantRichard, I will have to say you are the best pistol shooter I have ever shot with at a match, shooting steel at Gabriel Creek and shooting F-Class at Reese Bottom. The day you showed up at Gabriel Creek with that pistol and shot the first match, it was like that guy can really shoot.
I know you remember, I had to ask you a 100 times to come to Reese Bottom and shoot, so here you are one of the best shooters Reese Bottom. I’m not sure how many years ago it’s been for us shooting together but it’s always fun having you around.
I will say we can thank Mr. Wynne for all he’s done to build up Reese Bottom from shooting paper out to 500 yards, 600 yard paper to 600 yard F-Class and then 1000 yard paper to a 1000 F-class. A very big Thank You goes to Mr. Wynne and Reese Bottom as well as you Richard, Scott, Kenneth and all the other local shooters. I would like to thank Barry Holcomb, Steve, Nathan, Bill and all the other Mississippi shooters for coming and sharing their knowledge that helps us become better shooters. -

Richard SlatonParticipantYep Surrell, Super sniper, Shooter you open the door to Reese Bottom and Mr. Wynne said come on in about 2016 or 2017. It all started when I found out about your steel shoots and I called and ask If I could come and shoot my pistol you laugh and said “ well it’s you money” lol. I also met a few other RB shooters at you match which help open the RB door.
One of the things I look forward to each month is setting and talking, aggravating one another with my RB friends “ the over by the ole pot belly, out house clan”. But when we’re called to the line we flip the switch and cheer one another on and put our best shooting foot forward. Shooting at RB has been a big part of my on going therapy for the last 4 years of my life. The last two matches I felt like I’ve turned my shooting around and got it headed back the the right direction. When you have two good relays one one bad that’s on the shooter not the gun. You can blame it on the wind and mirage but remember the shooter has to compensate for that not the gun. None of use knows how many more matches we have in our life but I plan making as many as I can. A big shout out to Johnny Jones sr. For letting me catch a ride with him this month. February My Daughter brought me and enjoyed meet Mr. Wynne
Looking forward to next month
