I have updated the home page, the photos page and about went crazy fooling with the photos on the results page. Cannot seem to get things sized properly and they are all over the page. Sorry. Must admit, I enjoyed shooting badly today. That is a long ways to try to send a bullet. WWE

Thanks for a great match Wynne. Enjoyed the camaraderie and the more than challenging wind conditions.

Well looks like the eye surgery workout for Steve and it good to see the better half of the “Dream team” back in the winners circle and I guess Mr Wynne ready does have a 308. Lol
And yes looks like some of the top dogs got their butts kicked.
Smile the sun still comes up in the morning and at least your not like me trying to learn to use your arm and leg again lol.

In trying to rationalize the poor performance on Saturday past, I realized that there were probably several reasons that I will turn into excuses. It was determined that a surgically replaced shoulder and a concrete floor do not like each other. Then there is the .308. Recoil will take some getting use to and I would suggest putting more than 24 rounds into load development before taking the thing to a 1000 yard match. Speaking of a 1000 yard match, I have shot bench rest at that range but had never shot a long range slow fire match before Saturday. I will brag on the phone ballistics program. The number less 3 moa put the first bullet in the 9 ring. I had my fingers crossed on that one.

I have always had pretty good luck at 600 yards trying to read the wind flag at 500 yards. That did not work well on Saturday either. Enjoyed listening to all the good shooters tell how well they did calling their shots off of mirage reads which leads me to believe there is lots still to learn. Very excited about the large area of improvement that is available. At least they all hit paper, just some were closer to the edge of target than they were to the center “X”. The fun’s in the trying, WWE

Question. Are there any rules that dictate what type of mat a good shooter can use at a prone match? WWE

I don’t think there are any rules on the mat. I’ve saw people using bed pillows under their chest and I did too for a while after neck surgery! As for the wind conditions they wasn’t too bad. The switches were from 1-2 o’clock back to 10-11 o’clock. Mirage was perfect to read on Sat. I sent Wynne a chart on the effects of switching winds on a bullet fired from a right twist barrel. I’m sure most have not saw this chart. I won’t be shooting next month but I’m planning on coming. I’ll get some copies of the chart for anybody wanting one. I don’t claim to be a pro but I’ve learned a lot shooting and talking to some of the best. Brian Bowling is a High Master and on the USA Shooting Team. He told me once while scoring for me, Mr Steve you shoot well but you don’t realize when to hold up on your next shot! I’ll always remember that but still guilty of shooing the changes and hoping for the best!! Lol

A couple of things. Heard from Steve Gilley this morning. He has had a successful procedure installing the pace maker that he told us about this past weekend. A little sore but things are going well. He mentioned above that he had sent me a couple of wind charts that he has learned from. I am attaching them to this topic. Click to enlarge.

The other thing is Richard Allen says that he is missing a zip lock bag containing a couple of shooting accessories. If it got in your stuff, please let us know. WWE

I had a great time shooting as well. I’ve heard Steve mention shooting sighters in the worst wind condition holding dead on the X seeing where the bullet would go. I try to do this but still have a lot to learn proven by the 8’s shot on my last target.

I added my mat on top of the ones you have Mr. Wynne and it seemed to help. My wife has a spare yoga mat, I’ll try it next match and see how that works.

Well Mr. Wynn sorry kinda late with a post, but if we all done them on Sat. Night we might not have many to read the rest of the month. I had a good time match day, I needed to take a few shots to get my barrel to come in and took more than I needed. I did feel the temperature rise a little. But anyway had a good day, just competed with myself, had fun, and learned some things too. I have my own mat, didn’t know if the were regulations or not. The first time I brought it to Reese Bottom I was asked if it had speakers, I couldn’t figure out how to turn them on, lol. I noticed the clock always had a lot of time left when I finished a relay, so I might could slow down a little and study the conditions more. To me being consistent helps to evaluate mistakes. I’m really trying hard to do that. I remember a state pistol champion being just like a robot. Thanks Mr. Wynn for your patience and giving us all a place to enjoy our sport.
