ParticipantMr. Wynne called the last 6 months of my life a journey and I don’t disagree I’m glad that journey had a stop at Reese Bottom. My preparation for this match started last November when I decided to replace the barrel on the 6BrX. I already had the new barrel and in November I installed it on an extra frame I had with the plan of having it broke in and ready to after the last match of the year and before any fun day we may have. After the Nov. match I replaced the old 6 BrX barrel (2400 rounds) with the broke in 6 BrX barrel (110 rounds) on the stainless action I normally use and is set up with an 8×32 scope. After a little more load work and setting a 100 yd. zero and getting scope dope out to 1k I was ready for fun day BUT because of my Journey I missed the fun day shoot. After 6 months and an afternoon of shooting to get me and the BrX dialed in I’m ready for the June match. Then the Rain came down and it look like the June match would not happen which to me meant I would miss the July shoot as well mainly because July was planned to be a 1k match and as I told Mr. Wynne when I called him that I didn’t feel comfortable shooting the 1 k match with this somewhat new set up and being rusty from my journey without shooting a 600 match 1st. But the June match went on a week later and I and my set work pretty good so bring on July.
Back to the June match.
I knew I would have to shoot from a bench because of my limited use my arm and getting up and down. I a little concerned about the tables being too small to rest my elbow on but after I arrived and a little trial and error I found that table 1 and I think3 were bigger and would work Mr. Wynne switch me to one. An big concern was my right hand and arm (ammo loading and bag squeezing hand) could I pick 45 loaded rounds one at a time and place in the chamber will I guess so because I didn’t drop a single one!!
So with a pretty good 100 zero and unproven scope dope the pucker factor came in to play on that 1st. shot. The app said 13.75 for 600 my notes said offset 2 MOA so I dialed in 11.75. 1st. shot was low and right 7 but main thing “on target” second sighter was still right but a 8 so was the 3rd.So I came up 1 click to 12 and left 2 clicks which produced two 9’s still right add 1 click left which was still a low 9 up 1 click which produced two 10’s so let’s go for score. And of course produced two 9’s but I feel like getting back in the flow of shooting and the next 5 shots were mixture of 10’s and ax’s the last 8 a mixture of 9’s 10’s and 3 more ax’s . A 145 with 6 x not to bad for what I have been though the last 6 months. The second relay was a little better on score with a 147 but fewer x’s at 2 but I’m starting to feel good about my shooting and better about my ability to load and control the squeezing the bag
My third and final relay started with two sighter x’s and ended with a 148 and 7 x’s my best relay of the match. I took it as a positive that I improved each relay. With a score of 440/450 and 15x’s I was pleased for my 1st. match back. The lose and flopping target center on my 1st relay may or may not have distracted me but I’m not going to used that as an excuse. I came away from the match with some positives I felt like I was totally in control almost every shot they were only about 4 nine’s that I didn’t know was coming after I pulled the trigger. I didn’t thank the wind was a big factor and I thought I did a pretty good job of making wind calls. After the 1st. relay I adjusted back down 1 click and shot most of the match at 12. Which made me feel I had the gun and load dialed in. This is the same load I shot in the old BrX other than a .010 .seating dept change.
The match avg. score was 442 I shot 440 the average x count was 18 I had 15, I finished 11 out of a total 18 shooters. Not that I shot that bad they were 10 shooters that shot really really good
Congrads to Mr. Allen on his clean match and to Steve and Jonathan close but no Cigar.
Future projects I have the Barrel on the 223 Striker and hope to shoot a FTR entrée before the year is out Mr. Wynne the battle of the 223 might be coming LOL
Mike Boykin thanks for the input on your rest. I’m looking forward to the team 1k match next month I thank it helps to really get to know each other
Remember Mr. Wynne ask us to use this forum so please take the time to right a little post about new projects and things you’re trying -

KeymasterRichard, I am so proud for you. What you have accomplished over that last few months is nothing less than amazing. My shoulder rehab started a little ahead of your situation, but looking back at my rehab, it takes a lot of determination to see the process through, and I was working with a brand new part and you were dealing with damaged goods. Keep the reports coming each month. I always look forward to what you might say and there is always something in your report that I learn something from. As I have said many times, I wish that more of our good shooters would take a few minutes each month and mention something that they experienced at Reese Bottom that might interest the other good shooters. Looking at the results each month have taught me that many of us have a lot to learn yet so that we to might become good shooters. For instance, I was so proud that Kip C. was so willing to share his load info with everyone that he had just whipped up on. It was not the data that impressed me but the fact that he was willing to share. Those of you that were present at the June match already know that Richard Slaton and I have already teamed up for the 1000 yard pairs match in July. Our hope is that knowing this ahead of time does not discourage others from signing up for the match. Hope to see many of you on the 17th. Happy 4th. WWE
