Richard SlatonParticipantAfter have a couple case separations recently I decided it was about time to fire form some new brass my match brass has about 15 firings on it. So I’ve been forming some every chance I get to go to the range. One of my favorite drivers to take me is my 21 year granddaughter and so knows that trip will include dinner. To of my favorite things to do is to shoot and eat and when you can do that with family it’s a whole lot more fun. I ask her if seen had ever shot a gun her answer was yes one time but didn’t know what kind it was. I then ask her if she would to shoot one of mine she jump at the chance. I had the perfect gun, the twin of what I shoot at Reece Bottom but in 223 shooting 80 grain bullets.very mild recoil. So this Past week we headed to the range and after I fire formed some brass I sat the 223 up now I decided we’re not shooting paper cause that’s not fun instead the target is a eight inch gong at 300. After I got the 223 dialed in on the gong, it’s her turn, I talked her through a couple dry fire and could tell she was struggling with eye relief but I loaded the gun and told her to fire when ready first shot a miss which I was expecting so I sat down besides her and went through the whole shooting process of shooting a “ specialty pistol” grip, sight alignment trigger control and follow through. Then I loaded the gun from that point on solid center hits until shot all the ammo. Now you say what does that have to do with Reese Bottom well think about it we come we shoot we eat and we’re like family and when someone has problems someone will talk them through it.
That’s my narrative now on to the match:
Bill made a statement a couple months back “ you need a gun tuned to shoot 60 rounds in 90 degrees” well it’s supposed to be 100° today so I’ve got my 1st. Excuse preplanned lol.
Relay 1
First shot of the day was an center but low 8, up 1/2 MOA and the next 4 slighter all tens so let’s go for score which produce two tens before a nine popped up then a run of tens and X’s with shots 11 and 13 produced two more nines then it’s back more tens and X’s for a first relay of 197-9x’s I can live with that.
Relay 2
First two sighters where nines then three 10’s so mash the button lets go for score.and of course first record shot was a nine which this relay this relay produced 4 of those nines but still had more X’s than nines for a 196-6X
Relay 3
This relay was interesting for one I think it had the worse conditions and I had my lowest score but my highest X count
195 with ten X’s for a Total of 588 25 X’s
Summary
I think overall the conditions were not as bad as I thought they’d be when I left home and that was shown with some really great scores shot today. After all the recent talk about X count, I was definitely shooting forX’s today. And my 25 X’s put a smile on my face and that smile was in enhanced by 3 consistent relays and the fact that all three relays were 195 and higher. Today thanks to Scott I tried a different bipod and let’s just say it went home with me. Let give big shout out to Bo Hood on his 200 20x ( not sure if that has ever been done before Reese Bottom) and his massive 56 X count tagged to his 600.
I was happy to see some guys that have been missing in action along with few new faces at Reese Bottom. Hope to see everyone next month at first ever
