Richard SlatonParticipantWell we started a new years at Reese Bottom and it started out a little on the wet side but heck we shooting and that what matters. Was glad to meet the new to me shoots nice bunch of guys and pretty good shooters as well. I was thanking when I read the sign up sheet a few comments that were made offering the use of their equipment. So not only offering their knowledge to anybody that will listen but also use of their equipment as well. That’s what special about Reese Bottom just group of guys enjoying the day and yes when the line goes hot, it’s pedaled to the metal go for the win but when the line goes cold it’s shooters helping shooters Well as always I’ve been working getting back up to speed over the Christmas break I’ve been looking for some answers on what’s changed over the year or so . Hunting those answers I found that my ES and SD
Was very high and Barry told me he had problems with that today as well
Today I tried two different ways I address my gun but Neither stood out as better
1st. Relay
Well the bench guy got to go first and I setup to the side of my gun but never felt comfortable but had to it just to see. 1st. Relay a very lite rain but nothing like we drove down in. The conditions were mild I thought and had nothing to do with my score of 181 and zero X’s with my average speed of 2768
SD of 13.7 and ES of 52!!! That ES won’t get it at 1k
2nd relay
I had a “ failure to launch” had a solid primer strike but no boob and of course when I open the bolt the bullet was stuck in the lands and powder filled every crack but I had shooters come to my aide offering anything I needed “shooters helping shooters” after we got it cleared my next shot was an X the first of the day lol. I went on to shoot my Lowest relay of 179 and one X. Average speed 2759 SD 13 ES 43
3rd. Relay
This was my best relay of The day not that it was anything to brag about
At 183 and 2 X’s Avg speed 2753 SD 11 ES 34
For the match Avg.
Speed 2760
SD 12.5
ES 43
Looking at it every relay my speed, SD and ES all went down. What caused that? Barrel getting dirty? Temp getting warmer? Any ideals?
I tolded my Son and daughter I had. A fun day and I did.
I would like to thank Wynne for letting me be a part of Reese Bottom for ever how long it’s been. And Thanks to Scott and Barry for helping Wynne run the show! And a special thanks to all that helped me today from helping me get my gear to and from the car, getting my gun back up and running and just coming from far away and supporting Reese Bottom
Hope all had a safe trip home and hope to see you next month -

KeymasterRichard, I am also glad to be back shooting and being able to read your reports. Maybe 2026 will be the year that others follow your lead and let us all know that they enjoyed their experience at Reese Bottom. Be sure and tell your daughter that we are all glad that she brought you to Reese Bottom. We could not operate without a treasurer. Thanks again for supporting our matches and especially the forum. scott partenParticipantMr. Richard,
I noticed something interesting looking at scores from November compared to February. The winners in November would not have even placed this weekend in either division. That tells me we all have to really work to keep up. I also appreciate all the help given. I try to learn something new every time and appreciate the wealth of knowledge that we have been exposed to. -

Barry HolcombParticipantAs always, it’s great to be back shooting at the bottom. After spending a week at swn, it was nice to shoot a match with a relaxed atmosphere and just have fun. Personally, I had a lot of vertical and pretty sure that was due to my seating depth being off. A few tweaks on the tuner and it seemed to tighten up every match but I need to figure out how to that pre emptively. lol. I will say the mirage was causing some vertical but Ricky didn’t seem to have much of a problem with it so there’s that. I do find find it helpful to pick a condition and shoot it rather than trying to plow my way through it.
Mr. Richard, it’s always a pleasure to see your tenacity and perseverance! Did you change anything in your process from the last time you shot?-

KeymasterBarry, I have been scratching my head since the match on Saturday in regard to my third target. The two things that you mention above that caught my attention are knowing when to turn the tuner and that Ricky did not seem to be bothered by the mirage. Well, I was bothered by the mirage, and I did not know when I should have turned down the scope magnification. Tuners and scopes obviously need to be adjusted in a timely manner. I went into the Shotmarker archive and pulled up my targets. Targets one and two had some misses [7] but the record rounds were grouped up fairly well. Now to target three. It looks like I shot the nine ring with OO buckshot. No two bullets were in the same vicinity. I honestly believe this was because my site picture was so blurred because of the high magnification that I was chasing an X ring that was not where I thought it was. So: “but I need to figure out how to pre emptively”. Only time will tell if I learned anything. Maybe someone here can offer me advice as to when to turn her down some. Not real sure how I kept them out of the eight ring. Looking forward to seeing everyone back at Reese Bottom real soon. Thanks for your support. WWE

Richard SlatonParticipantBarry thank you, both tenacity and perseverance can be side effects of being hardheaded which I don’t make excuses for, it’s served me well in life. No too long ago I could somewhat to keep my 1k relays in the 190’s now I’m struggling to keep them in the 180’s so I’m looking back for answers. As for as this month I did try shooting addressing the gun two different ways main reason a couple weeks ago I cracked a bone in my wrist and was trying to find a less painful way of shooting but that had little effect on my shooting. All the loads were the same all three relays BUT they differed from last months but showed no improvement. I’m going to revisit Seating depth along with brass prep, I’ve got from now till Mr. Wynne puts up that sign “closed” to find the problem
