Well after missing last month I was excited too get to shoot with friends this month and hopping that all y’all got them 200 relays out of your system, but that was not the case for Barry and Noel Congrads . When I looked at sign up list I knew I was in trouble I thought man we got 17 great shooters and then one bad ME, so I was prepared to come in way down the list but hey l’ll giving my best. After we finished up with 1K matches I up graded my scope thinking it’s first run should be at 600. I got go to the range twice with it and only could shot out 300. After the last range day I felt like I should in the ball park. My plan for today: take my time, seams like a lot times I’m the first one done. So i’m going take time to read the best I can of the conditions as well as make sure i’m comfortable behind the gun doing my check list and executing the shot compete with follow though. Easier said than done and my condition skills well they’re a work in progress.

      1st relay
So here I go with the new scope let’s say I was a nerves Wreck on that 1st. Shot but after what seam like 2weeks 2 days and 4 hours it popped up 8 I can breath now I’m on paper after a few more Sighters making adjustment and getting comfortable with my set up I’m ready to go for score and again glad some else is pushing the button. 1st shot for recording is an 9 followed X then mixture of 9’s and 10’s with 5 more X’s for a 1st. Relay of 195-6 X’s which would be my lowest relay of the day
But I took my time,no rush but trying to read and apply the conditions was over loading my brain and making me over think and over correct so I told myself the conditions are not that bad next relay go back to your old system but take your time and go though your check list
      2nd relay
1st. Sighter 9 followed by X,10,X,X feeling pretty good I’m ready for score
1st ten shots only one 9 with mixture of 10’s and X’s so I feel like I’m getting in the groove but the next 10 toll me I was not when three 9’s showed up But this relay was 1 point and 1X higher so at least I’m getting better
      3rd. Relay
Do or die, man up time , finish strong
Thinking between relays I basic I call all of the 9’s before they pop up the screen and I knew why they were going to be a 9 so FIX IT, go though every step check every box BEFORE you squeeze the trigger
Well first three sighters were all 9’s lol. So I set back and said what did you tell yourself not 10 minutes ago did you not listen I guess not because the first shot for record was you guessed a big fat 9!! Ok then at lest finish strong and I did the last 19 shots only one 9 and had 6X’s for best relay of my day 198-6X’s . Relays of 198 won’t put you in the money at Reese Bottom now days but they still put a smile my face. I did run the numbers but I know I didn’t finish with an avg. score
I thought the match went smooth not many hiccups smooth enough that Mr. Wynne shot his best score ever at 599 Congrads to him! I personally had a fun day. Every match I learn something from others and sometime I learn something from talking to my self. And over look my mistakes I never made good grades in school in grammar and spelling
In closing I would like to think 1st Mr. Wynne , Scott and others that take time and work hard so we can come shoot, plus my family and I thank all of you that have helped and supported me over the last few years and last big shout out to Mr. Allen for letting me hitch a ride today. Hope to see all next month

Thanks Richard for taking the time to write your report every month. I wish more people would let us know something about their experience at our matches. I’m interested to know if anyone has an opinion on the Big Red Clock. Is it a factor[too short/too long/about right]? What about the food. Do we need more high protein/gluten free, etc? Maybe just say Hi so Richard or myself could respond. Ask a question, I will try to be the first to respond. As I said years ago, no profanity and no politics. Keep it shooty. WWE

Noah and I had a great time shooting Saturday and it was great seeing you back Mr. Richard and as the day went on you improved your scores. It was great seeing Jessie back after shoulder surgery, hoping he gets healed up completely and can be back on a regular basis. I did shoot my personal best of 50 x’s and couldn’t be happier with how my rifle shot but honestly I was more excited for my nephew shooting a clean and it only being his 3rd match or so. He’s a trap shooter but definitely no stranger to shooting and I didn’t load his ammo for him. I told him if he wanted to shoot he was going to have to prep brass and help tune the rifle so it was fun seeing him enjoy the fruits of his labor. It’s easy to get excited and rush shots or not wait on conditions but he held together all the way to the end. Congrats to Mr. Wynne for only dropping a point, heck of a score too! On the ftr side, congrats to Scott for putting his new rig to work and making it shine. It’s always a battle in ftr, Kipp was getting dialed back in and cleaned the last target. It was good seeing David and Jerry make the drive to come shoot. I’m not intentionally leaving anyone out, I always enjoy seeing everyone and catching up. I’ve noticed over the last few months that the level of competition is growing and the ones putting in the extra work and doing more shooting are really taking their shooting to the next level.
I’ve got to get ready ready for nationals in Lodi, Wisconsin now so that means loading 350-400 rounds for that. I’ll probably be tired of reloading after that’s all said and done.

Barry, don’t underestimate your and others influence on the scores over the last couple of years. Being exposed to you, Nathan, Bill, Joe, Mike, and others who travel the country and compete with the best of the sport has helped us all be better shooters. Good luck to all of you next month in Wisconsin.

And don’t ever quit being you, Mr. Richard. Very few people could shoot a pistol as well as you.

As usual, the Grenada, Ms delegation had a great time. The quality of shooting at Reese Bottom is next to none. The friendship and enjoyment there makes the 3 hour drive a no brainer. Food? Well, nowhere else does a club match feed you and give you a chance to win your entry fee back. All in all, a great time. Best kept secret in mid-range and long range shooting by far. Thanks, Mr. Wynn

As for Mr. Richard: I can’t wait to get home and read his posts. I hope someone is compiling them and going to make a book of his experiences at Reese Bottom. It will make a great read!

Thanks to all that replied you made mine and Mr. Wynne’s day
Barry you reminded of me of few years back when I went the world Championship in Handgun silhouette I shot 3 different guns in 4 different events in centerfire and 3 different guns in 4 different events in rimfire got to thinking I won’t have had to do all this loading If I only shot rimfire LOL.
I’m glad to see RB shooters step it up a notch well as all know when I step Im not 100% sure we’re that foot is going go.
Steve If I wrote book and my daughter (that I call the grammar cop) read it she would need her meds because I write in Sand Mountain English, which doesn’t always put the punctuation marks in the right place and miss spells most of the words.
      To your question Mr. Wynne
The clock when you 1st. Used it back a couple years ago it kinda rushed me and now it does right the opposite it make me slow down and I like it. as for as time limits I like where it’s at. Say If someone has a problem or shot Marker misses a shot normality it can be resolved and the shooter can finish the relay in the time limit. But be happier with what ever most people won’t.
      Food:
Hopefully by next match I will have new store bought teeth and will be able to comfortably eat. I told my cardiologist last visit Im 72 years old Ive live though heart attacks surgeries and seizures healthy or not I’m going to eat what I want. She looked at me and grinned and give me a thumbs up
      Moving forward:
I know my ability of being competitive consistently left me 4 years ago. And now not being to drive has limited me for my practicing and testing.
But I will be there every match I can. I will come with a smile give my best and leave with that same smile and my very best not cause anyone any problems. Thanks for letting me be apart of Reese Bottoms

Jerry Rochelle and I had a great experience shooting at Reese Bottom last Saturday. I was the newby and it showed but everyone made me feel comfortable especially Mr. Wynne. It’s truly a unique shooting experience and you will get a good message from the Lord too!

I hope to come back sometime soon! Thank you for allowing me to come. We all got a good laugh at the gunny pot photo!

Just wanted to say thanks for the conversation yesterday. Does the heart good to see you good shooters show up at Reese Bottom and compete in our matches and then return home and thank the winners for beating you. Always be humble, right.

Saturday was a personal best for me. I am proud of the 59, but sad for the 1. Who knows, maybe one day. I would like to admit that on Saturday I shot at a higher magnification than ever before. The first relay on 80 and the next two on 65. My old days as a hunter for some unknown reason have influenced my long-range shooting. I have always tried to shoot a clear target, so lower magnification. I killed my first deer at thirteen years old and for the first six or so years we only hunted with shotguns and dogs. When I was about twenty years old people went totally with rifles. My first rifle was a Remington .222 with a 3-9 Tasco scope. We only climbed trees[no shooting houses with solid rest] and I got use to shooting deer on 4 power. When I got in the big leagues with a 4-12 Redfield I would look at a buck on 12X but would always turn down to 4X to shoot. Picture seemed more stable while propped on a tree limb or free handed. Anyways, it has taken me until now to realize that a Seb Max with a Rodzilla top is sturdier than that tree limb. I killed my last buck when I was 26 years old. On yesterday I turned 74. Where in the world have those 48 years gone. Thanks to Reese Bottom, punching holes in paper is now my thing to do. WWE

Wynne You bring up an interesting fact about scopes being used at Reese Bottom. You stated you started on 80x power on the 1st relay and shot 65 power on 2nd and 3rd. Relay. I up graded from a 32x scope to a new 50x scope and this was 1st. Time to use it at 600 yards. And pretty sure I shot the whole match at 50x. I up grade to the 50x mainly because I could not see a defined aiming point at 1k with the 32x scope I guess I’ll find out how it does when we go back to 1K. I know a lot of times shooters back the power down because of The mirage. All that being said
And body that come to this forum other than to sign up or check results I would like to hear what the maximum power your scope is and just normally what power do start a match at and as fore say the mirage increases do you back down on power or adjust holding point for the mirage and not back down on power. And then there’s those that use spotting scopes.
Take a few minutes to state what works for you . Let make Mr. Wynne have to buy a bigger data for this website.
I promise not to use anything you say to beat you in future matches
