KeymasterLooking back on this last Saturday, I wonder if I did not let my scope adjustments cause a problem. Not that the scores would have been any different, but the second and third relays I feel as if I was looking at something that I did not see. Felt like I was reaching for the edge of the bed late at night coming back from the bathroom. Get the point? Can a shooter use that blurry target as an advantage or is it always better to dial down to a clearer more stable target? Ater rereading my question, I see a reason to break out the spotting scope. It would have to be advantageous to have two looks at the same time at different distances between here and there. Say at 600 and at 1000 while shooting at Reese Bottom, any suggestions as to where to focus a spotting scope? Thank You everyone for supporting the forum and our matches. WWE

Barry HolcombParticipantI prefer as much magnification as possible with an equal amount of clarity. I do have a hard time holding point of aim when I get down to 30x but sometimes it’s necessary.
I think finding the correct mirage at distance with the spotting scope is beneficial.
Mirage is just hard to shoot in and experience seems to be the roughest but most effective teacher -

Kipp CharltonParticipantBarry any recommendations on a decent spotting scope that won’t break the bank for me to start with.

Barry HolcombParticipantKipp, I’d recommend the vortex razor gen 1 85mm objective lens with a 23x Ler eyepiece. The kowa 882sv with a ler eyepiece.

scott partenParticipantI have a kowa with the long eye relief lens and like it. I cranked my scope to 80 then left it and could see ok. I also tried to focus a little short and that seemed to help. 1,000 will be different for sure. I seemed to be able to shoot and see a little better when there was a little bit of wind.
