Let me first say after missing last month it was great to be back shooting with my Reese Bottom friends.
After set the scope with my last 1k match dope my first shot was a very low totally unexpected 6 so I came up and shoot second shot and it was a still low 8 came up again but still low in the 9 came up again next three shoots still low 9’s but borderline 10’ I’m all ready 1 moa up from my starting point so I decided to adjust my aim point and go for score 1st shot another 9 so I adjust again which resulted in two 10’s then I don’t know where It came from 8 followed by two more 9’s which had me scratching my head the. Two X’s a 9 then a 10 I finished that rely with a mixture with a combination of 9’s 10’s and X’s for a 1st. Rely of 190-4x which like I have stated if my 1k relays are all in the 190’s I’m kinda happy! During that rely I got up a couple borderline sub sonic warning which I sometime I get on 1k matches for this rely my avg. at target speed was 1156 with an SD of 9.5. The second rely was were the real problem started not only was I getting that warning on some shots but on those shots it was not registering the hit I had really never had that problem before I finished that rely with not all 20 shots registering. Setting between relays I got to thinking I had changed my load a little to try and help not getting the warning and I thought it had somewhat help BUT why did all shots on 1st. Rely register but some on the second didn’t? The third relay start just like the second with some shots not registering then I caught a glimpse of something if I shot with the flags somewhat blowing towards me my shoots didn’t register with a cross wind they did with! With my match pretty much down the drain I deliberately shot a few shots with the flags blowing to me just to prove to my self of what I thought was true and I was right and my thinking was backed up after the match when Wynne and Barry came up to me and said we were watching and every time you shot with a head wind your shot did not register. So I now know the problem is my velocity is so close to subsonic that a somewhat strong head wind will slow them down to go full subsonic. So I now know what’s the problem now to fine a cure. 1. Going forward anytime I can I will hold my shot if I’ve got a strong head wind but that’s not always possible 2. Work with different powders to try and get my speed up without losing accuracy
      Now running the numbers:
In this match I can only us the 1st. Rely the only one I scored 20 shots.
In Open avg. 1st. Relay score 189 my 190 avg. X count 4 mine 4
So in open I shot my normal just Avg.
I don’t have the FTR scores to run the numbers for total match avg.
Looks like I’ve got work todo before next’s month 1K match
What I shoot causes the problem, but what I shoot also creates the challenge that’s why I shoot! Until next month keep your powder dry and enjoy your family
