KeymasterThank you to all the good shooters that supported Reese Bottom by attending the matches held in 2022. Now the time has come to prepare for 2023. Plans are to make a few minor changes to the way we do things. Thanks too for the comments and phone calls that each of you offered up. First, I would like to be shooting by 8:30 am. If most of you are present by 7:45 and the stragglers get here by 8:00 we should be okay. The entry fee will continue to be $25 per person with $5 to Gunny Pot winner, $10 divided among winners and the excess $10 to expenses. 10 good shooters in a division would mean a $50 Gunny Pot and $100 divided among the top three winners. No more Gunny Pot ties. Most X’s wins, if tied then high score, if still tied, high 3rd relay score, then 2nd score, then 1st score, then a coin flip. Division winners will be high score, then most X’s, then the same relay totals as above. When this becomes an issue, please help me remember my rules.
We will start the year with plans for all matches to be 3 X 20 X distance each month. No pairs matches are in the plans at this time. Please understand that everything that I do is to try to make mine and your day go smoothly. In the past I have tried to implement a three mis and you are out of match rule, which I have failed to enforce. As I see things, our biggest problem is shooters that show up not on target. More times than not, the scope is simply off by a revolution. This year, the good shooter must understand and agree that by registering to shoot a Reese Bottom match, that they are responsible if their bullet hits any part of the electronics. In other words, if you are comfortable sending bullets into out of space, then it is okay with me, but you accept responsibility if the electronics are hit. $500 for hub, $50 for sensor, and $10 for wire. Remember, you agreed when you registered. The targets sensors are 4 feet square at 600 yards and 6 feet square at 1000 yards. Well away from the X ring. To Be Continued!! WWE

KeymasterContinued. If you register another shooter, please remind them that they are responsible if they are guilty of hitting the electronics. I do not see this as a problem, but you never know.
We will pre-register here in the forum for all matches. As always, I will announce the monthly matches around the first of each month and close the registration on Thursday night before the match. We are going to try to put a new emphasis on not rushing through the matches but at the same time not just goofing off. What? If you register for a match at Reese Bottom, plan on being the middle of the afternoon getting done. We only have the four targets and it just take a while. So please understand before you register that if you need to be at the birthday party at 4 pm you will be late getting there. Prone shooting is a marathon, not a sprint. There was discussion about divisions shooting in the same condition. I will try my best, but again with the four targets, it just takes time. We are what we are.
The last thing and I will hush. Plans are to crown a Shooter of the Year for both the Open and FTR divisions at the November Shoot. I hope to have a small prize and maybe have a plaque made to hang on the shed wall for the winners. I have created a spreadsheet to track things and the rules are simple. 1. Shooters are allowed to shoot only one gun each month. 2. To be eligible, the good shooter must have participated in seven[7] matches in that division throughout the shooting year. 3. Each month, 3rd place gets 1 point, 2nd place gets 2 points, and 1st place gets 3 points. If you participate but do not place, the spreadsheet will show an asterisk and if you do not participate the spreadsheet will be blank. I’ll post the standings each month on the website a couple of months in once we have accumulated some data.

KeymasterLooking forward to having another competitive but fun year at Reese Bottom. Thanks again for all of your comments and suggestions here on the forum and by phone. Everything mentioned could be made to work but I feel like the years’ experience has allowed me to create a competitive match with the least amount of effort on my part. Remember that at Reese Bottom things are small and close together with benches to the rear. A little different from most places but still the best kept secret around. Bear with me and I pledge to do my best and my challenge for you is to show up on target and try to beat your previous best.
Let’s register for the February match on the 18th here in this topic. Name and caliber. It helps me to plan the sooner each of you get registered. We will close the registration on Thursday night the 16th at 7:00 pm or at which time we reach a limit. I honestly think that 20 good shooters would be a perfect number in our situation, and we would plan to shoot the relays in rotation. Twenty-four will be max and I would probably ask to be allowed to alter the rotation as we have in the past. Looking forward to a great year of shooting and we will monitor things as we go and make any necessary changes. WWE

KeymasterWell, our dead period is about over and it is time to start thinking about the upcoming match. Remember to get yourself registered by Thursday February 16 at 7:00 pm. Not sure yet about the weather but I can assure you that things will be wet. Think rubber boots. Richard Allen has called and will be shooting 6.5 X 47 from a bench in the Open division. I plan to shoot the dasher in the open division but don’t let that discourage you from registering. I hope that the weather gives us a break and we hope to see many of you next Saturday. WWE

KeymasterAs of Thursday morning at 10:15 we have fifteen good shooters signed up for the match this Saturday. Seven Open and eight FTR. Johnny Pace has had to back out to attend a funeral. I know that I stated that registration will close at 7:00 pm tonight, but to keep things in fours, I will only take one more good shooter after this notice, making sixteen. I will also need three volunteers, or I will appoint three to shoot from benches. I only have one bench request and need four. You can volunteer right here. We are supposed to have some weather here later today, but things look okay for Saturday. It will be wet so think rubber boots. WWE
